Playground for Talents
The simple boards that mean the world don’t end at the stage curtain in TaO!-- not even at the fifth curtain(less) call.
What do I do with such a creative child? That was the question for Barbara Rauchenberger, curator at the Kulturzentrum bei den Minoriten Graz and mother of five-- until her son David turned eight years old and discovered his interest for the TaO!. The „Theater am Ortweinplatz – TaO! – is a meeting point for young people who enjoy theatre and acting. Professionals teach children starting at eight years of age. For teenagers of all ages, very good courses are offered as well, even university students join in the acting sometimes.
At the TaO! the all-important stage rarely disappears behind a curtain. This is a venue where modern theatre is made and offered. Each week 180 teenagers come and go. Many of them remain loyal for years and take on roles in plays of the regular program. The schedule includes professionally written plays for children and teenagers. Since 2011 TaO! has been opening its stage for guest productions.

Even if the box office is closed you are looking after the children: You can make a worthwhile visit to the TaO! during lunch time. The „Bistro Relativ“, right next to the TaO! foyer, offers tasty and inexpensive lunch specials-- a fact well known in this neighborhood. Nikos Grigoriadis, program director of the KIZ Royal cinema, can be found here regularly and loves to share his latest insights to the world of cinema. In addition, all customers of the bistro support the charity, Lebenshilfe (for people with intellectual disabilities), with their visits.
