KAISER-JOSEF-MARKT

Kaiser Josef Platz
8010 Graz

Mon. – Sat. 6 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Queen Runner Bean

Whoever wants to experience all of Styria in a hurry won’t be able to get around making a leisurely visit to the market.

Even before the first streetcars start running, farmers are putting final touches on their market stands. They drape their delicious goods onto wooden tables. Flowers dominate the view in the front rows across from the opera house. Turning into the market, you may happen to find yourself standing, as if paralyzed, in front of the regional treats, and offered a sample by the spirited vendor. Kaiser-Josef-Market has preserved its original charm throughout its long history. The farmers themselves offer their products here: farmer’s bread, runner beans and smoked meat, pastries and fruit juices.

„Kaiser-Josef-Market has preserved its original charm.“

This oldest and most bourgeois farmers market of the city will also satisfy those looking for organic products. Even organic fish from Gut Hornegg is available. The butcher shop Feiertag from Weiz has a permanent stand offering specialties. Burger meat from Turpolje pigs, organic chickens and Almo filets of beef are regional culinary highlights. Almo Almland oxen graze for 25 months in the Teichalm-Sommeralm region. The Turpolje pigs live in open stables near Ligist, with access to free roaming space outside. At the Feiertag stand, market visitors have to line up to take home organic eggs. Ready-to-eat culinary delights can be found at “Schnabelweide“. Every Saturday notorious morning people, like fashion designer Lena Hoschek, meet here. Advice to all who like to sleep in on weekends: In past years, many nice little patisseries have found their home in the area around Kaiser-Josef-Market.
